The National Center for Montessori in the Public Sector (NCMPS) is non-profit founded in 2012 and dedicated to advancing public Montessori. Its mission is:
To advance Montessori education in the public sector through the support of a robust network of practitioners, researchers, parents, and leaders committed to realizing Maria Montessori’s vision of education as the great work of realizing the child’s potential.
NCMPS focuses on “teachers, tools, and schools”, working in three areas:
- Addressing the teacher shortage through coordinated talent development programs such as the Montessori Teacher Residency.
- Assisting new and existing schools in fostering cultures of continuous improvement through coaching, workshops.
- Developing and sharing resources such as the Developmental Environmental Rating Scale (DERS), the Essential Elements Rubric, and the Teacher Appraisal Instrument, designed to assist schools as they move toward full implementation.
NCMPS also sponsors MontessoriPublic, a website, email newsletter, and print publication reporting on and advocating for public Montessori.
